Tully’s Coffee – Nice Marketing Touches

tulleys-coffee-lincoln-square

One thing I’ve noticed since moving to Seattle are all the nice touches a lot of retailers add to the experience of spending money with them.I’m really amazed at some of the quirky things stores do to raise a smile, keep you engaged or just be plain helpful.

Tully’s Coffee in Lincoln Square in Bellevue bowled me over today when I was picking up a coffee before a meeting. While waiting at the end of the counter for my triple-shot, 1.5 chocolate pump, non-fat (not skinny), “mowkah” (not mocka), I was able to entertain myself with a crossword answer or two and do a quick peruse of my horoscope.

How simple and fantastic is that?!

The same coffee shop gives away little doggy treats at their Alki branch as a reward for bowows who have to wait for a bit outside while their owner picks up their caffeine hit.

Other things I’ve heard of or seen are parking spaces for pregnant women, a free meal if you can prove you’re a musician and automatic misters to keep fresh produce moist and fresh.

Seriously impressed with the genuinely enthusiastic and helpful service too. It can be a little overwhelming at first, but I’m starting to get used to it and asking questions which get great responses and help decide what I want (or what I didn’t know I wanted) much quicker than ever before.

Well done Tully’s……….but can you make the crossword a little bit easier next time?!

Mel, I love reading your blog. As much Americana as you are learning, I hope to glean more ‘British Speak’. Thank you for spelling out precisely how a Mocha is ordered. Mowkah. <3 If only I liked a Mowkah so I could say that on a daily basis.

Thanks Rebekah – my point was we’d say “mockah” as in “sod” and you guys over here say “mowkah” as in “sow”.

No one over here understands me if I say the former ;-(

I’ve spent the last 5 minutes trying to saying Mockah, mowkah, maaakah, and I can’t. You’re just going to have to tell me first hand. 😉 You’d laugh if you heard me. Moooooowwww, maaaaa, mooookahhhh.

So a mocha sounds almost like vodka? This does explain why my mocha’s were always wrong when I was working over there!

As an American I’d say we say it more like “MoeKah”
