Growing Vegetables in the Street?

Vegetable-patch-seattle

If you can’t afford a $10 cauliflower at the Madrona Farmer’s Market, it seems people in Seattle have no problems growing vegetables out in the street!

This patch is on my walk to work and is outside a house on the grass verge between the pavement and road.

Now, although I think this is a fantastic and efficient use of green space, the Londoner in me slightly balks at the thought of foodstuff being so exposed and unguarded.

Having said that, I’ve not really seen the drunken hooliganism one’s likely to see on the streets of Richmond-Upon-Thames on a Friday night here in the Pacific Northwest.

Maybe I’m just not going to all the right places? Or maybe there are more urinals here than in Blighty?
