Spotted this helpful observation in an international relocator’s guide to the US of A.

Language – American English is spoken throughout the States, although
you will find it very different from other forms of English
used in other countries.”

Really?

I would think that every country that speaks English has its own dialects and idiosyncracies that make it unique. American English is different from Australian English and both of those are different from uh… English English. Who wrote this relocation guide, Captain Obvious? ;-)

Grrrrrrrr. I hate the term ‘American English’, period. Really winds me up.

I must admit that I was quite amused to read the term ‘American English is only spoken in the US of A’! However, as someone has said, every English-speaking nation
has their own dialect and expressions that makes the language unique to that
particular country – I am sure that you have had many a chuckle as to how the South Africans speak English Mel??! And that’s what makes a country so ‘different’.
